San Diego Meth Initiative

The San Diego HIV Funding Collaborative has released a Special Request for Proposals (Special RFP) as part of the San Diego Meth Initiative. A single proposal will be selected for up to $50,000 in funding.

Program Outline

Here is a brief outline of our process. Complete details are provided in the Special RFP.

1) On Wednesday September 1, 2010, SDHFC will issue a general Request for Proposals (General RFP). Proposals for this coordinated funding with AIDS Walk San Diego are accepted only until October 15, 2010.

3) Proposals must be submitted electronically as a single PDF document by 5 pm PDT on Friday October 15, 2010. Please submit proposals via e-mail to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

4) Proposals will be reviewed by the SDHFC's Advisory Committee who will select a single proposal to be funded through this Special Meth Initiative.

7) The Meth Initiative grant award is expected to be announced in December, 2010. The first half of the grant disbursement will be given at that time.

8) The Meth Initiative grantee must submit a six-month interim report.

9) The Meth Initiative grantee may receive a mid-year site visit by staff before the second grant disbursement is released.

10) At the end of the year, the Meth Initiative grantee must submit a final report. Staff will review the report and write a one-page summary of the organization's accomplishments and challenges during the grant period.

Residential AIDS Caregiving Program

The AIDS caregiving program provides 24-hour personal care and supervision including managing medication regiments for residents.

Support & Mental Health for HIV+  & High Risk Individuals

To offer harm reduction/support group for HIV+ men who  use Meth and to provide mental health services for individuals who are HIV+ or at high risk and have co-occurring conditions of substance abuse and mental health problems.

Mama's Kitchen

Home Delivered Meals Program

Mama's Kitchen Home delivered meal program provides three meals a day, free of charge, 365 days a year to men, women and children affected by HIV/AIDS.  These meals provide life-sustaining nutrition to those too ill to prepare meals for themselves.

North County Health Services

Community HIV Testing & Counseling Services

The proposed program will provide HIV outreach, education/prevention, testing/counseling and referrals to primary care & other services to anyone who tests positive.  Services will be provided via our medical mobile clinic; the program's target population will be agricultural/immigrant workers who live and work in remote rural and semi-rural communities in north county.

Operation Samahan

Youth HIV Prevention & Education Program

The goal of this proposal it to continue offering Samahan Youth 2 Youth Center as a resource in providing HIV counseling and testing, community education and awareness to youths aged 12-24 living in the South Bay.

The peer education Empowerment Program (PEEP) is a peer led curriculum that provides HIV/STD education and prevention to high risk youth ages 12-18.  Youth who attend thru group and are assessed as high risk  for infection are eligible for health assessments and comprehensive risk reduction counseling/case management.

Amigos de CASA/Our place Rafiki Program

The focus of these programs has been shifted to provided HIV prevention services to the south region Latinos and African Americans.  Key program activities: HIV testing, targeted prevention activities, partner counseling.

Special Delivery San Diego

Home-delivered Meal Program

To prepare, assemble and deliver free nutritious hot and cold meals  Monday thru Friday  for men, women and children with AIDS in San Diego.

University of California San Diego

Engaging and Retaining Loss to Follow-up HIV Patients in Primary Care

Targets Owen Clinic patients who have received care but have not had an appointment in the past six months. Goal to return and retain them in HIV primary care and treatment.

Vista Community Clinic

HIV/AIDS Prevention in North County (PINC)

Maintain vital prevention services for high-risk HIV negative and positive individuals in the face of state budget cuts. A Health educator will provide group and individual level HIV education and prevention.

The 2010 Survey has officially launched.

This survey should be filled out by individuals living with HIV/AIDS who reside in San Diego County. The online survey can be accessed from a link on the San Diego HIV Health Services Planning Council website at www.sdplanning.org under the ‘what’s new’ tab on the home page or by using the following direct links:

It is important that consumer voices are heard during these tough economic times when HIV/AIDS budgets are being cut.
