Why do we need an LGBT community foundation?

LGBT Community FoundationToday, LGBT people living in the State of California have the opportunity to enjoy a much better quality of life than they did even just a few years ago. In spite of this progress, challenges remain. Our hard-won human rights continue to be questioned. Organizations that offer services to our LGBT community are substantially underfunded relative to those serving other groups. Of even greater concern is that even as our quality of life has improved, groups that oppose our very existence have continued to grow their financial resources to levels that far exceed ours.

An LGBT community foundation is one of the most important ways to build on our community’s tremendous gains and strengthen it for the future. It is a charitable giving expert that is created by, supported by, and for the benefit of LGBT people. It pools gifts, both large and small, to meet our local needs, build our community’s capacity to help itself, and improve the quality of life for all LGBT people who reside in our community.

As an LGBT community foundation, we know and understand local needs and are especially suited to educate and help people with their charitable contributions through personalized service and local expertise. Donors gain access to our professional staff to learn about our community’s needs and to identify innovative and effective community projects.
